Host : Dr. Lauren Lawson, LMFT

Many therapists are told their work “doesn’t qualify” as a nonprofit because it doesn’t resemble a traditional charity. That advice is often incomplete — and in many cases, simply wrong.
In this live session, you’ll see why most therapists have been trying to solve the right problem with the wrong lens — and what actually makes nonprofit sustainability possible.
This session replaces the myths with grounded, ethical clarity — so you can see what’s actually possible.

Dr. Lauren Lawson, PsyD, LMFT, is a nonprofit founder, AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and therapist with advanced training in nonprofit leadership and organizational psychology.
She founded her 501(c)(3) mental health organization in 2013 and has spent more than 13 years building and operating the nonprofit therapy practice model she now teaches.
Her experience goes far beyond nonprofit formation. Lauren has navigated the realities of nonprofit governance, board leadership, staffing and supervision, insurance reimbursement, compliance, revenue generation, compensation, and organizational growth — while building a sustainable mental health organization that serves its community.
Today, she helps therapists understand when the nonprofit model makes sense, how it differs from traditional private practice, and how to build organizations that are mission-driven, compliant, and financially sustainable.
Lauren’s expertise sits at the intersection of clinical practice, nonprofit leadership, and organizational development. She does not provide legal or tax advice and encourages therapists to work with qualified legal and tax professionals when those issues arise.
By the end of this training, you’ll know whether your nonprofit problem is effort — or structure.
The four myths about nonprofits that keep therapists stuck — and what’s actually true.
The real difference between doing meaningful clinical work and building something that sustains it.
Why the advice you’ve been given is the problem — not your qualifications, your finances, or your readiness.
What a clear, ethical, financially sustainable nonprofit structure actually looks like for therapists — whether you’re in an agency, a solo practice, or a group practice.
